Just across the Channel, Le Verger is a lovingly restored old house, wonderfully Gallic in atmosphere yet incredibly easy to get to. It is located in the Seven Valleys region of the Nord Pas de Calais, an hour from the ferry port and 40 minutes inland from the chic shops of Le Touquet.

Hi Moira,

We have just returned from our long weekend at le Verger and really thought the house was special. The kitchen is the best-equipped of any house I have stayed in and was a pleasure to cook in . The living room was warm and welcoming in the freezing weather with a big fire going and there were  enough beds for an army .

Hi Moira,

We are back home after a fabulous weekend at Le Verger.  The house is fantastic and the best equipped holiday rental we have ever stayed in.  We were 9 adults and 5 kids in the end, celebrating an early Christmas together.  The kitchen was the hub of all our activities and our Christmas dinner was a success thanks to the huge oven!

Regards,

Moira

We had a great time celebrating thanksgiving at your house in northern france! Thank you very much for all your help in the period leading up to this weekend. Not least in setting me together with Seb to sort out the turkey.

Thanks,  Thomas         4th December 2009

Dear Moira,                                                    June 2009

Thank you so much for letting us share in a little piece of French life in the fabulous Le Verger.

The house exceeded all our expectations and was a perfect venue for our 12 strong party of friends and family. We had a week full of  fun, laughter and total relaxation. The site of the house was idyllic, quiet and peaceful yet within easy distance of some great places to visit, the most memorable for me being Vimy, just an hour's drive away, to see the First World War trenches and the breathtaking Canadian War Memorial. Also recommended is the bird Sanctuary at Parc du Marquenterre where you can see spoonbills and avocets to name but a few. We were also lucky enough to be able to watch a pair of flycatchers hatching their young in the eve of the patio roof at Le Verger – a rare treat!

I can also recommend a canoeing trip on Le Canche – very reasonable and great fun and even involved a little bit of white water kyacking!

The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and Drew fulfilled a long held dream of producing some authentic French cuisine for family and friends in a kitchen that lends itself to accommodating large parties - and there was plenty of room for us kitchen skivvies to help out, whilst enjoying the odd aperitif!

The house and garden itself has plenty of quiet places where you could hide away for a snooze or with a book but also there always seemed to be a game of boules or table-tennis going on for the more energetic of us. Come each evening we would congregate on the covered patio for pre-dinner drinks before gathering  round the wonderful dining table for Grand Dejeuner, more wine and  silly games.

Altogether we had  brilliant week and I have a strong feeling will be back again before very long for another “fix” of French magic!

With many thanks for your hospitality,

Best Wishes,

Roz and Drew and co.

Moira,

We had a great time last week at your house, probably the best of the three times we have stayed there. The weather was very good, apart from a very heavy thunderstorm on Thursday, which flattened half of  the delphiniums.

We  had some very good meals, particularly at L'Ecurie, and we chose some good routes for cycling over the hills and around the valleys. We went to Berck one day. It was about as hot as we would want it. We watched a flycatcher feeding her brood in a nest under the eaves, but missed their first flight.

Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

"Hi Moira & Peter

Happy New Year to you and your family!!

We would like to say how wonderful Le Verger was and we had a relaxing and
pleasant time there. Our New Year Celebrations were a success and all
families thought your property was so well equipped. We would definately
visit again and will recommend it to everyone.

One thing I will say is the photos on the Big Domain website do not give Le
Verger the justice it fully deserves. We were all overwhelmed on our arrival
not only at its size and layout but also the warm and comfort we felt during
our stay.

Once again many thanks for your hospitality and thats comes from all of our
party."

"Hi Moira - happy New Year to you - I hope your celebrations went well.

Just a quick note to say thanks for making your home available over Christmas - you and your husband should be really proud of what you have achieved with the house - we thought it was fantastic."
