Just across the Channel, Le Verger is a lovingly restored old house, wonderfully Gallic in atmosphere yet incredibly easy to get to. It is located in the Seven Valleys region of the Nord Pas de Calais, an hour from the ferry port and 40 minutes inland from the chic shops of Le Touquet.

Cultural Interests

Le Verger is a great place to come for a French gastronomique experience. A visit to any of several local markets is an event in itself and the fresh fruit and vegetables, organic meat and specialty local goods make delicious ingredients for home cooking. There are also a number of restaurants in the area, ranging from characterful local cafés to places to go for a luxurious gourmet meal.

Wine lovers will enjoy a visit to one of the local caves, which all house an extensive collection of good quality regional vintage wines. A trip to the local estaminet is also essential. Estaminets are a feature of this particular region of France – they are bars which provide entertainment alongside speciality beers and ciders.

The house and surrounding area are steeped in fascinating history and there are several sites of interest locally – a museum at Azincourt and the surrounding battlefields which can still be explored. There are also battlefields from World War I and a museum at St Omer housing the V1 and V2 World War II rockets.
