Guest Book

Many of our guests have left their comments and thoughts in our guestbook over the years. Here are a few of them

After travelling south from Calais through open fields, the close wooded valleys around Le Verger come as a sudden and pleasant setting. The house stands alone overlooking the old church on one side, the village on another, and open country on the other – watch out for deer flitting across now and then. The surrounding villages are picture-book representations of this part of France, and yet you are within easy reach of some fascinating cultural visits. The house exceeds expectations as for furnishings and comfort; you feel at home as soon as you arrive. All the stuff you need is there: an excellent kitchen, good lounging areas, comfortable bedrooms, and bathrooms with good shower pressure! I could go and on…we are looking for the next opportunity to visit Le Verger. Thanks for letting us use your house. Best Wishes, Phil

Hi Moira, We have all agreed that it has been one of the best family holidays and my brother and sister in law who have been over from Australia from May said it was the best bit of their whole trip. I hope we will be able to return. Theresa McAnninch

We really enjoyed your property at New Year. It was fabulous. Tam

Hi Moira - happy New Year to you - I hope your celebrations went well. Just a quick note to say thanks for making your home available over Christmas - you and your husband should be really proud of what you have achieved with the house - we thought it was fantastic. Mr and Mrs B

Dear Moira, I just wanted to say on behalf of the whole family a very big thank you for our wonderful holiday in Wambercourt last week. We had such a marvellous time. It was the best house we have ever stayed in. The provision of all the equipment in the shed kept the children entertained and there was little need to go out! They also enjoyed the beach at Stella Plage, the alpacas and other animals at the "wool" farm, Azincourt Museum, watering all the plants in the graveyard (having visited daily the airmen's grave. My uncle was a Second World War pilot lost over Germany and his body was never found so it was very special for me especially as he shared the same christian names with one of the men buried there) and being able to walk to the post box all by themselves! We would love to go back again some time and explore the area some more. We usually go to Normandy but found the area very interesting. Very many thanks again. Best wishes, Libby and Alan Risby

Hi Moira, Can't believe its a week since we came home from your lovely cottage in France. We had a fantastic week, and found it very poignant that we were at the cottage on the anniversary of the unfortunate deaths of the 3 servicemen buried in the churchyard. We bought some flowers and placed them on the graves on the day. We hope to return to the area another year and would certainly love to stay at Le Verger again. Many Thanks, Hilary

Dear Moira, Thank you so much for our time in your lovely house. We all had such fun at the party and its no problem reaching 70 when sharing it with family and friends. We all loved the house and found it cosy, really well equipped and very welcoming. The Saturday meal was great. Best wishes, Dee Hannah

Hi Moira, We have returned from France and had a brilliant time again. We played golf on four days and did not get a single drop of rain. I did rain overnight and sometimes while driving but not on the golf courses. The food was excellent as usual and was enjoyed by everyone. Robin

Dear Moira, Just to say we had a really special weekend at Le Verger. Everybody agreed it was a great house and relaxing location. We were extra lucky in that the weather was warm and springlike all weekend so we could sit in the garden and the children were able to play table tennis and boules. I think we left the house more or less as we found it. I would like to think that we may return at some point. I am also in a book club (loved looking at your book shelves) so it may be that 9 ladies come at some point! All good wishes. Adrienne Slater

Hi Moira, Just a quick few words to let you know what a fabulous relaxing time we had at Le Verger. The birthday meal was wonderful. The entire family agreed that the birthday cake was the best ever - can't go wrong with chocolate mousse! We made the most of the beautiful surrounding countryside and even the weather was kind to us. All parties are now home safely and we certainly experienced a birthday to remember. I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is planning a family holiday or get together in the future. Sadly it is all behind us now and I am bracing myself to go back to work tomorrow. Not something I am really looking forward to but that's life. Thank you once again for all your special touches like the champagne, which we all enjoyed, and the wine recommendations. The house itself was amazing and we had no difficulties or problems with anything. Best wishes, Irene

Happy New Year Moira, We are all home safe and sound to Hampton, Gloucester and Luxembourg and have all enjoyed our stay in your lovely house in Wambercourt. What a lovely property and so comfortable. Many thanks Moira for providing such a nice property for us to rent. Niall Boyle

Hello Moira, We had a fantastic week at your house. We loved cozying up by the fire at night. My son, age 13, didn't seem to miss the TV at all. I always take my knives with me but I didn't need them at all. The kitchen was amazing! We hope to return again. Michelle

Dear Peter & Moira, What great vision you both have. Le Verger is such a nice house. Congratulations you have done a wonderful job. Thank you so much for sharing it with others, it's a joy to experience. Friday - Our children had arrived before us so when we got there the lights were on, the fire was roaring and carols were playing. Just as we drove in, as if on cue it began to snow. The children were standing in the Manger with Champagne. Eve thought we were on a business trip to see a French client. Well what a surprise! Just fantastic. Everyone kept thinking we were on the set of a film. It was just perfect. Saturday - A good hearty breakfast, snow fights, party then dinner. We will never forget the meal prepared for us. We could not eat the last 2 courses and had to keep them until Sunday morning. They were there from 6 until gone midnight having cooked and waited and washed- up. What a great night! Mike Pomfret

We are now back from a glorious weekend in France. The accommodation and the food were excellent. The meals were always served on time and were superbly done. The bacon and sausage were really good. :-) Robin Hodges and the golfers

Moira, A lovely weekend at Le Verger , wall to wall sunshine , fabulous food and wine ..... made all sorts of plans to do things but in the end we more or less stayed at the house and enjoyed the tranquillity and Summer weather. We were able to eat outside and used the bbq while kids played table tennis and cricket (very impressed with the table tennis table !!) Lindsay Williams

Moira and Peter, Some members of the family have been holidaying in France for 28 years and they commented that this was the best ever location and house they have stayed in. We loved your property and had a wonderful time both on site and travelling to the beach, Hesdin and the new cemetery at Fromelles. The facilities and amenities were excellent. Terry and Jeanette ps are you taking bookings for next year?

Dear Moira, May I reiterate Janet's praise for Le Verger. We thoroughly enjoyed our week, the youngsters organised a table tennis tournament, and the middle age group made full use of the barbecue (including sea bass one day and butterflied leg of lamb another!!) Thank you again, Ann Parkinson

Dear Moira, We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Verger, thank you for letting us share in a lovely and well loved home. it was a great family re-union, we do not see the New Zealanders as often as we would like but have to content ourselves with the wonders of MSN on the internet. Your directions were first class and all was in complete order when we arrived and as far as we know, everything was in the same order when we left. Northern France was to us, a place that we hurried through on our way to other parts, we didn't realise that it had so much to offer. With our best wishes and thanks, Mike & Joyce

Dear Moira and Peter, Just a short note to say how much we all enjoyed our stay at Le Verger last week - we had beautiful weather and were out and about every day to a variety of sights. The house is a wonderful place to stay and the kitchen in particular was very conducive to long evenings sitting around the table eating lots and drinking French wine. I do hope that we will be back one day to visit again soon. With regards, Oonagh

We have just returned from our long weekend at le Verger and really thought the house was special. The kitchen is the best-equipped of any house I have stayed in and was a pleasure to cook in . The living room was warm and welcoming in the freezing weather with a big fire going and there were enough beds for an army. Lindsay

Moira, We had a great time celebrating thanksgiving at your house in northern france! Thank you very much for all your help in the period leading up to this weekend. Not least in setting me together with Seb to sort out the turkey. Thanks, Thomas

We had a lovely time at the house and the weather was kind to us during the last week. It was a lovely property to stay at. The children loved it and the myriad of games and 'kit' about the place made it feel like a 'home from home'. Philip Read

Dear Moira, Thank you so much for letting us share in a little piece of French life in the fabulous Le Verger. The house exceeded all our expectations and was a perfect venue for our 12 strong party of friends and family. We had a week full of fun, laughter and total relaxation. The site of the house was idyllic, quiet and peaceful yet within easy distance of some great places to visit, the most memorable for me being Vimy, just an hour's drive away, to see the First World War trenches and the breathtaking Canadian War Memorial. Also recommended is the bird Sanctuary at Parc du Marquenterre where you can see spoonbills and avocets to name but a few. We were also lucky enough to be able to watch a pair of flycatchers hatching their young in the eve of the patio roof at Le Verger – a rare treat! I can also recommend a canoeing trip on Le Canche – very reasonable and great fun and even involved a little bit of white water kyacking! The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and Drew fulfilled a long held dream of producing some authentic French cuisine for family and friends in a kitchen that lends itself to accommodating large parties - and there was plenty of room for us kitchen skivvies to help out, whilst enjoying the odd aperitif! The house and garden itself has plenty of quiet places where you could hide away for a snooze or with a book but also there always seemed to be a game of boules or table-tennis going on for the more energetic of us. Come each evening we would congregate on the covered patio for pre-dinner drinks before gathering round the wonderful dining table for Grand Dejeuner, more wine and silly games. Altogether we had brilliant week and I have a strong feeling will be back again before very long for another “fix” of French magic! With many thanks for your hospitality, Best Wishes, Roz and Drew and co.

Hi Moira, We are back home after a fabulous weekend at Le Verger. The house is fantastic and the best equipped holiday rental we have ever stayed in. We were 9 adults and 5 kids in the end, celebrating an early Christmas together. The kitchen was the hub of all our activities and our Christmas dinner was a success thanks to the huge oven! Regards, Julie

Moira, We had a great time last week at your house, probably the best of the three times we have stayed there. The weather was very good, apart from a very heavy thunderstorm on Thursday, which flattened half of the delphiniums. We had some very good meals, particularly at L'Ecurie, and we chose some good routes for cycling over the hills and around the valleys. We went to Berck one day. It was about as hot as we would want it. We watched a flycatcher feeding her brood in a nest under the eaves, but missed their first flight. Thanks for a wonderful holiday. Andrew (The cyclists)

Happy New Year to you and your family!! We would like to say how wonderful Le Verger was and we had a relaxing and pleasant time there. Our New Year Celebrations were a success and all families thought your property was so well equipped. We would definitely visit again and will recommend it to everyone. One thing I will say is the photos on the Big Domain website do not give Le Verger the justice it fully deserves. We were all overwhelmed on our arrival not only at its size and layout but also the warm and comfort we felt during our stay. Once again many thanks for your hospitality and thats comes from all of our party." Mr and Mrs H.
